Trabant Returning As New Eco Car
This is the Trabant. It was produced in East Germany from 1957 all the way up until 1991. And it is making a return, although with a slight difference.
It is set to be a concept car at the International Motor Show, being held in Frankfurt this year. It used to have a terrible 37cc 2 stroke engine, which if pushed hard could even reach 55mph! But the new Trabi (as it is known) will have electric fuel cells and also air-conditioning powered by solar means.
The people behind this are a company called Herpa Miniaturemodelle, who make model cars. So how they will do with this venture remains to be seen. Despite its past the car does have something oddly attractive in the way it looks, so who knows with some clever engineering it could be a hit!

Its retro looks could prove very popular – look at the success of the Fiat 500. I’m looking forward to seeing it at Frankfurt and the fact that it has green credentials couldl make it an even more popular choice.
