Billboards That Tell You The Right Oil For Your Car!
Castrol have launched the first advertising billboard campaign which tells you which is the right oil for your car. There was a video on YouTube showing it in action on motoring journalist Quentin Willsons lovely Jag XJ – however the video has since been removed!
Basically, a camera clocks your numberplate to find out the make/model/year of your car and then shows up the right oil for your vehicle. I can see some people not liking it, the ‘big brother’ effect if you like, but it is important to have the right oil in your engine.
Oil is an important part of your car, so it is certainly not to be ignored. Here is another video which is still available (at the time of writing) to watch on the topic.

UPDATE: I’ve found out that Castrol had an issue over the use of the DVLA data, and so had to pull the plug early on the trial pending a review – so it could be back in the future!

I was in the states 2 weeks ago and Castrol are advertising really heavily on American TV at the moment. One product in particular features ‘Sludge Protection’, looked it up over here and I don’t think we have it yet.
However this is an interesting concept but perhaps a huge waste of money? Will be back I’m sure when they have done a deal with the DVLA!!!

If you don’t know what oil to put in your car, you shouldn’t be driving then, should you?

@gices – Just because people don’t know the right oil for their car doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be driving, it doesn’t affect how they drive does it!
