Ford Focus 2.0l Diesel Fuel Economy
I have now done a 1000 mile fuel economy test in a 2009 (on an ’09 plate) Ford Focus 2.0 TDCi Zetec-S. The driving has been a little bit of motorway (approx 10%), with a lot of the driving in suburbs (approx 75%) and the rest in the city (approx 15%).
On the manufacturer website they state a combined cycle of 51.3MPG, my result: I have averaged 47.8MPG, so not far off the official figures at all. And mine is a ‘real world figure’, as in it isn’t just when the engine is warmed up, the figure is what the engine has done over the last few months.
I am reasonably impressed. I tried the 1.8l TDCi Focus engine and it was quite a bit louder, with only a 5-speed gearbox and changes between gears were not as smooth. On top of that I didn’t see much of a difference in the MPG. So if you are looking into buying a new Ford Focus I definitely recommend you go with the 2.0l diesel.
